Gift Ideas for Four and Five-Year-Olds

Ages four and five are such fun years—bigger imaginations, deeper focus, and budding independence. These gifts support their creativity, confidence, and the “I can do it myself” energy that defines early big-kid life.

Gift ideas for four and five year olds featuring 10 products including a Paint with Water activity book, Zingo bingo game, kids' microscope, and Yoto player
  1. YPlus Paint Books: These helped me stop dreading paint crafts with every fiber of my existence. Each page has its own watercolor paint swatches, so the only thing you have to set up is a paintbrush and a water cup. Low mess, praise be.

  2. Zingo: E is getting this game for Christmas! I did a poll asking for favorite family games for the 4-5ish age kiddo, and this was recommended dozens of times.

  3. GeoSafari Jr. Microscope: E received this last year and has enjoyed it so much, which makes my inner nerd very happy. It comes with 20 slides (each with three images) and teaches different facts about each slide. The “voice” is Bindi Irwin, so it’s actually pleasant to listen to.

  4. Yoto Mini: We planned to give E a Yoto at 5, but gifted it to her around 4.5 before our first plane ride. This was the perfect age for it, and now that she’s 5 years, 3 months, she’s grabbing it more often than her Toniebox. It’s great for travel and has lots of “big kid” book offerings (including HARRY POTTER — cannot wait to read HP with the girls one day)

  5. Melissa & Doug Sandwich Shop: The fake food has continued in ages 4 and 5 at our house, but at least I do enjoy a fake sandwich. Except one time, E told me I requested too many ingredients, took my money, and then closed the sandwich shop for the night.

  6. Monopoly Jr.: This is E’s favorite game! It’s been great to practice counting, using a dice, and counting money.

  7. Walkie Talkies: I’ve really upped my walkie talkie lingo using these with E. Thankfully, I’m able to now turn my walkie over to F, and she and E love chatting with each other from different rooms. 10-4 over and out.

  8. Magna-Tile City Center: I’m eyeing this set for our next big add-on to our collection. It has some unique shapes that the other sets don’t, and adding on track and cars is always a plus!

  9. SuperSpace Tiles: The girls received this as their big Christmas gift last year, and they love them. I’m already looking to add the Rectangle Add-On pack. One important thing to note: these are like big Magna-Tiles, so they can be easy to topple over if kicked or leaned on. I’d definitely recommend these for kids 4+. (F, 2.5, is typically the reason the forts go crashing down).

  10. Fabric Flower Maker: I made a reel of this toy last fall, and it’s the only thing I’ve ever had go viral — hilarious. This toy is truly worth the hype. It comes with all the different colors and textures of fabric to make the flowers. The best part? They come apart, so you can reuse all of the pieces..
